Volunteers at Burwood Hospital

Burwood Volunteers form a vital part of the rehabilitation process, bridging the journey from hospital back into the community. Volunteers enhance the work of paid staff by stimulating interest and providing contact with the outside world. The volunteers work to support all programmes at Burwood Hospital focussing on the recognition of diversity of abilities rather than disability.

How Can I Volunteer at Burwood Hospital?

Anyone over 18 years of age can apply, or over 16 years of age with parental consent. Students, business people, retirees and homemakers all volunteer to help. What you do need is time – two to four hours a week, enthusiasm, interest and commitment. Once you’ve decided to help, we have to be able to rely on you like another member of the team.

All volunteers are carefully interviewed and are required to undergo a security check. You will be given an orientation and on-going training depending on the area in which you choose to work.

If you want, you can transfer to another area as time goes on. Your time with us at the New Zealand Spinal Trust will provide you with new skills, experiences and enjoyment.
