For many people living with a spinal cord injury, loneliness is not just the absence of company. It is living in a body that others struggle to understand and feeling as though no one truly knows what you are experiencing.
It’s not just missing people. It’s grieving a life you had, in a body no one around you understand. It’s not knowing a single other person who’s been on this road – and wondering if anyone ever will. Left unanswered, that isolation is dangerous.
That is why New Zealand Spinal Trust exists, and why our work remains so vital, even as our resources are stretched thinner than ever.
The crux of our work to support positive futures rests on employing an awesome team … and then ensuring we can keep them. We receive almost no government funding to help with this – 100% of our annual income has to come through fundraising efforts, which is why our
Annual Appeal is SO important. This is the one where every dollar raised goes straight to paying the bills: staff wages, insurance, phone, internet, mileage, printing, postage, training, bank fees, travel costs, gingernuts … okay – not gingernuts … the staff donate those … but you get the idea.
This year, all donations made before OCTOBER 5th will be MATCHED by our friends at
Permobil – double the impact; double the support!
